Many congratulations to RunUltra member Tim Woodier who won a signed copy of Kilian Jornet’s “Summits of My Life” book and a pack of 33Shake gels for his review of the Tenerife Blue Trail race last December.  Tim kindly sent us this great shot at the top of his local peak in Wales which his wife took.

Here’s a quick dip into his detailed review which is a must read for anyone interested in this race:

‘My spirits are high as I settle in to a sustained climb. “Ohh na na what’s my name”, shut up Rhianna I have work to do. I toil with poles up a steep ascent. The path is very narrow and the ground underfoot is volcanic gravel, similar to the conditions underfoot at the start of Transvulcania in La Palma, should I have worn gaiters I wonder?’

Our Community Manager Luke caught up with Tim to ask him a few questions about his running.

Q. Who is Tim Woodier?

A. I am a full time photographer and aspiring writer. I’m currently finishing a book about a 6,800 mile trip I made around the USA and Canada on an elliptical bike. I managed to stay with ElliptiGO owners and cyclists every single night. I live in Abergavenny with a wife and two young girls.

Q. How did you get into ultra running?

A. When given a voucher for a sports shop, I bought running shoes and things escalated from there. I thought I was going a long way in the hills when I was running alone but when I started running with my local fell running club (Mynydd Du) there were whisperings of UTMB, the climbing figure seemed impossible, I had to try it.

Q. Favourite race?

A. Depends on the day you ask, but today I would have to say Montreux Extreme, a hundred mile adventure in the Vaud Alps in Switzerland.

Q. If you could run anywhere in the world...?

A. I would like to run everywhere, but I have long wanted to run the Grand Raid of Reunion.

Q. Tell us about the amazing selfie you sent in?

A. It made sense to get the picture with the "Summits of my life" book on the summit I climb the most, 3 miles from my doorstep. My wife (currently in training for the MIUT marathon) ran up with me and took the pictures.

Q. Any race plans for 2019?

A. Yes! Running Madeira Island Ultra Trail (75 miles) in April then Ultra Trail Snowdonia 100 two weeks later.

I have a 600km Audax, Pendle 600 on an ElliptiGO in June (this may be the most difficult to complete),  Lakes Sky Ultra in early July, Etna trail 94km in late July then UTMB in August.
