The Anchor Milk Otago Alps 2 Ocean Ultra is a 323km 7-day staged race that takes place in New Zealand. It starts at the foot of its highest mountain Mt Cook and finishes at Oamaru, on the Pacific Coast. Cut-off times apply.
Although the race is self-sufficient, participants can choose between unsupported and supported options to run where the organisers carry their kit from one campsite to the next. Teams of 4 are also accepted. External support is not allowed. Checkpoints with water and electrolytes will be available every 10 to 15km.
Mandatory food rations will be randomly checked.
Interest was so high in the event this year it quickly sold out with almost two thirds of the 120 competitors coming from 14 overseas countries with Australia providing 34, the largest number of off shore athletes. Kiwis are well represented with 46 on the start line and there are nine competitors from the United States and Canada. Other countries represented are England, Scotland, Ireland, Brazil, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Tonga
