Black Spur Ultra is a race wrought from the winding, technical single track that trail runners dream about. No pavement, big climbs through rugged terrain, and stunning scenery. In its first year many racers dubbed Black Spur an “instant classic”. Hosted at Kimberley Alpine Resort, you can walk to the start line right from your hotel room.

Great course, really well organized by Brian the RD. I ran the 54k. Leg 1 is technical and lots of climbing, and the course gets easier and easier in leg 2 and 3. Leg 3 is very runnable, if you still have the legs left to run! Kimberley is a lovely town to stay. There are restaurants and cafes, along with the mountain views. It's a great destination race.
This is an amazing race! Beautiful views and Really well organized!
Very well organized and a technical, fun course. I'll be back again next year.
I ran legs 5 & 6 as part of a team relay of the 108km race. I am a relatively novice trail racer so I found leg 5 to be very technical and challenging. Leg 6 was equally so, although mostly because of my fitness levels and the total darkness. Overall, the race is extremely well organized, the course is adequately marked (even when you're a bit delirious), and all three legs provide a huge challenge. Having participated in Sinister 7 as well, Black Spur is an equal challenge without the large amount of runners or crazy demand for spaces. One thing to note, which can be see as either a positive or negative. All legs start and finish in the same place. This makes logistics super simple, but it is a smidge repetitive when you need to do the first climb 6 times.
