The CCC, part of the UTMB annual festival of running runs along the international path “Grande Randonnée du Tour du Mont-Blanc (GR TMB)”.

Like its sister races, it is a mountain race, with numerous high altitude (+2500m) passages, difficult weather conditions that require training, special equipment and self-sufficiency.

The registration limit is set at 1900 runners and there is a cut-off time of 26h and 30minutes. Registration for this race requires 3 points obtained from the approved qualifying races.

The race starts at Courmayeur, in the Italian Alps, and its climbs include some of the most amazing views the Alps can offer: Mont-Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses or the Vallons des Chezerys. The race enters Switzerland at the Grand col Ferret (2537m) and then France at Vallorcine, and ends in the heart of Chamonix.

As the race is semi self-sufficient, only 10 refreshments posts are provided with drinks and food.

The CCC is such a friendly race and it feels like a race that wants you to finish. I've run it twice. 2014 was warm in the day and rained hard at night, then 2015 was very hot with a fantastic balmy night: I have an everlasting memory of being at Catogne (2000m) at 0200, warm enough to be in just a running tee, a cloudless sky full of stars, a smell of herbs and mountain air with absolute silence. Magical. The climbs are hard but not brutal as with TDS or MB80, and there is a lot of fluid running to be had. This is the ideal first time 100Km Skyrace for anyone.

You can't be a real ultra runner without getting into the high mountains around Mont Blanc. This race has the ability to bring out the explorer from within. A real test to the limits where you find out a lot about yourself. The organisation by The North Face is astounding. Chamonix is stunning and a true mecca for all kinds of endurance sports and athletes. A great place to take the family for a break before and after the race with plenty to see, do, eat and drink! The race itself as expected was remarkably mountainous. Out of the race distances on offer I would recommend doing this before any others (such as UTMB and TDS). Experience of a lifetime and a well earned gilet that you will find hard to take off at the end!
