A surprisingly hard race. The Cotswolds may not be the Alps but when you have to climb up to every hill fort and down to every pretty village you pack in plenty of up and down and many wonderful views across the Severn Valley and then down towards Bath, with a surreal city centre finish. Half the race is in the dark too. Lots that's runnable on contouring forest tracks, good going underfoot for the most part, tight cut offs so not a race for ultra walkers. Minimal but efficient, even ruthless, organisation. I DNF-ed this year (2019), timed out at the 70 mile point, but would come back and have another crack.
Great race. 2018 weather was miserable - wet and cold. Marshalls and aid stations were fantastic, despite the conditions. Having my drop bag follow-up me along the route made logistics simple. A very well organised and friendly event.
This is a tough old beast and this year the weather was more mid winter than early autumn. Great race with heaps of irrepressible support from the checkpoint volunteers day and night. 30 hour time limit with cut offs mean you have to keep a reasonable pace certainly in the earlier stages. 10 to 11 hours of running in darkness tests your mental resolve and don't be deceived into thinking it isn't very hilly - IT IS. Good all round organisation, great support & fantastic competitor spirit and camaraderie. Can't fault it and hope to be back in future years.
Great race and nice and low key, I’ve started this twice, first time Dnf, then a few weeks after CCC feeling ok tried it again. Came under my target of 24 hours with fellow runners keeping me going through the night which feels a lot tougher than in other 100 mile races as it comes round so soon due to the midday start time. All in all a brilliant tough race with navigation being the hardest part. So much so it is now my ‘A’ race of 2018 and I’m working to see how well I can run this great course.
This a fantastic but VERY tough event, I've tried and failed twice now but will be back in 2015 to finally complete it. The organisation is superb, thoroughly recommend it to everyone.
