This 80km 'Lionheart' trail race is a journey back in time across the Kyrenia mountain range of north Cyprus, following tracks and paths used over the centuries by wandering monks, minstrels, Crusaders, shepherds, goats and explorers -- and now by trail runners.

Starting just before sunrise at the remote 13th century Kantara Crusader Castle, the route follows rough tracks and rocky trails westwards through the mountains with breathtaking views of the sparkling blue Mediterranean sea below.

Runners pass the abandoned Sourp Magar monastery in the Alevkaya forest and the legendary Five Fingers peaks on the way to the magnificent Buffavento Crusader Castle - the highest point of this undulating route with around 3000m of total ascent.

Runners have to run to the top of the castle and back down again before being allowed to to tackle the last 10km of the route to the very welcoming finish line in historic Bellapais village - next to the pool and pub of the Ambelia holiday village.

The event offers two shorter race options for thoe not ready for the Lionheart 80km challenge, there is the Braveheart 30km (following the last 30km of the Lionheart route) race, and a Mountain Goat 10km race, starting and finishing at Ambelia Holiday Village, to be run on the same day as the main race..
