Very well organised race and very much "non commercial" as mentioned before. Ideal race for someone looking for their first 50k outing. It's 10 laps of a 5k course which means you can leave your food/gels etc with the option to pick something up each lap. I found it nice to be able to count down the laps too! Water is provided throughout the event.
Surface is mostly quite soft underfoot and muddy in places, some gravel and tarmac.
Be aware of the 5hr cut off! Great atmosphere, very well marshalled and chip timed.
Highly recommended and nice and early in the year :-)

Donadea 50km 13/2/2016. Great race. Well organised. Flat and fast 50km. 10 5km loops so not only do you have to be a strong runner. Your head needs to be strong to. I would definitely recommend people run it if they want to have a go at ultra running as i have.

Well organised race, ten 5k loops of the woods in Donadea. Surface is a mixture of tarmac and gravel with a few muddy spots when wet. Fantastic atmosphere

The organisation of this event is very good. It's a very no-nonsense approach and the whole thing runs very smoothly. There is a cut off whereby runners after 5 hours won't be timed. There is a sweeper running at 5hr pace which people can follow. The locations is about 45 minutes from Dublin can be be found quite easily. Roadside sign posting is visible in the days leading up to the event. The forest park itself is very nice and contains a cafe at the start/finish area complete with outside hot stove to keep spectators warm. The course veers right alongside the lake and then into the forest. The first 3km can be described as undulating and then it levels out for the final 2km. It has to be said the undulating nature certainly wears you down over the course of 10 laps. The ground is a mix of packed gravel, plant waste and tarmac with some mucky stretches in wet weather. Portumna forest 50km, in Galway - i haven't run but is described as a flat course compared with Donadea. So be prepared. Drinks were provided throughout the race at start finish which had table for leaving your own drink and energy supplies. Chip timed with lap splits and Medal and t-shirt for all finishers. A worthwhile day out, nice local supporters, car parking, nice surroundings. No shower facilities after the race, prepare for that. Has a self contained feel to it. Very non-commerical. Recommended.
