Whether you are new to running, a seasoned runner or have a team of mates or work colleagues looking to take on an a challenge we have you covered with this event..... You may have heard of endurance challenges such as Adidas Thunder Run, or Endure 24, but most of them are found in the South/midlands. For that reason, we have brought Trailblaster to the North!

Brought to you on one of the longest days of the year, Trailblaster takes you around the trails of the scenic, wooded Towneley Park.

Home to the famous Towneley Hall, The grand old building acts as a backdrop to the 12 hour lively running festival on its surrounding grounds, also with a 6 hour option if you prefer.

The "NEW" 5K Course loop.

The event takes place on the trails and paths near Townley Hall and on private farmland and woodland within the park. It even lets you cross the river twice without getting your feet wet (we hope!!).

This makes the course completely unique. Whether local or from out of town this provides a great opportunity to run on trails that are completely traffic free, fully marshalled and a flagged course. Its challenging yet pretty flat for the majority.

Beginner

Elevation: Very little change < 500 metres. Benign running terrain, not technical.

Suitable for: First ultra runners completing a marathon or doing regular long distance running in the last six months.

Intermediate

Elevation: Increase of up to 1000 metres

Suitable for: Runners who have completed at least one ultra distance race (or similar event) or are doing long distance running (>26 miles) regularly, with elevation shown.

Advanced

Elevation: Increase of up to 1500 metres

Suitable for: Runners who have completed several ultra distances or similar events, or are doing long distance running regularly, with elevation shown.

Expert

Elevation: Increase of up to 2000 metres with some challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity or heat) and or technical terrain

Suitable for: Experienced runners who have completed at least regular ultra distances in last 12 months, or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races may be subject to evidence of recent qualifying race participation and recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements.

Brutal

Elevation: Increase of up to 2000 metres with very challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity, heat or at high altitude) and or technical terrain.

Suitable for: Very experienced long distance ultra runners (min 3 years’ experience) or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races is often subject to evidence of recent qualifying race participation and recent medical examination certificate. Purchase of specialist kit is often recommended for these races.

Endurance - Multi-activity

Type: An ultra distance race including at least two of the following activities such as running, swimming, cycling, kayaking, skiing and climbing. It may also include different climatic conditions (eg ice, snow, humidity, cold water, mud or heat).

Suitable for: Experienced multi-skilled athletes who have trained for the different activities included in this event. Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements and any specialist equipment required such as a wetsuit, skis or a mountain bike.

Global - Virtual

Type: A virtual race which can be run at any time shown on the dates shown, on any type of terrain in any country.

Suitable for: For runners from beginners to experienced as you choose your own course and challenge based on the guidelines and options set by the virtual race organiser.

Well organised race but did not enjoy the course. It consists of a 5k loop through the park and wooded areas. After the second wooded area and river crossing, it snakes through a field for over 1/2 mile. The field was pot holed and covered in freshly cut grass. After my third lap in over 30 degree heat I'd had enough. I strung it out until lap 5 but the course had beaten me (and my ankle).

Couldn't fault the team or marshals, food and drinks were plentiful. Just won't be back for that course!!!

This was my first event over marathon distance and I loved every minute. The marshal support was amazing (even for the second 6-hours in the rain!) and the course was easy to follow. The terrain was mixed and the aid station well stocked. Have already entered for another solo run in 2017 - well worth a go.

Cannonball know how to put on a race! Everything was is place from a great bunch of motivating marshals stopping traffic and pointing you on your way and a station full of nutrition from bananas, nuts, jelly babies to the likes of High5, everything was thought of including porta-loos, marquee from BBMarquee's and massages from GW fitness and Rehab. and some great prizes which we picked up from Ellis Brigham

Anne Marie Lord- this was a fantastic event. A brilliant 5k course that was very runnable with differing terrain to challenge you on the way. The support on the course was fantastic and the marshals were out there for the whole 12 hours supporting the runners. The food and hydration were spot on and you had updates all day to keep track of your position and timing. Definetly be back next year and trying to get the club I run with to enter a team. Well done john and the team for a fabulous event and about time there is a 12 hour event in the north west! See you next year

This is the perfect event for trying out the ultra distance for the first time.....fully stocked aid stations, enthusiastic marshals, interesting route and the reassurance that you can stop when you've had enough. It wasn't just an event for me, it was an experience. The volunteers couldn't do enough for you, from getting you food, grabbing your extra clothes and making you a cup of tea. I ran the inaugural event in 2015 and I have no doubt that it will continue to improve as it gets more popular year on year.

To be fair this was my first ever ultra attempt so I don't have much to chart it against in terms of comparable events, however I have done a fair few races, many of them by this organiser and it certainly lived up to and then exceeded my expectations in terms of quality. Well organised (I knew where to go when and everything ran smoothly), a lovely route (who knew 19 5k laps wouldn't get boring!?), absolutely first class support from marshals and staff, including organiser John standing at the start to personally cheer and encourage runners, more free food and gels than I could eat, free massages (I didn't have one) and an ice bath at the end all served to enhance and further improve what would anyway have been an incredible experience. I'd certainly consider running again next year and am now looking at other ultra events by this team. Love it. Thank you Cannonball! xx

This was my 1st team (of 3) endurance event. Camping facilities were good, especially as you could park your car next your tent. Portaloo always clean and fully stocked with toilet roll. Event briefing clear and explained team baton passing well. Course clearly marked and Marshalls were very helpful and motivating! Nutrition tent well stocked although I did miss getting an early morning coffee. The course was a good mix of flat and hills and terrain. At first pass the hills were not too challenging but by lap 5 they were extremely tough! Overall a lovely 5k lap based course with some good terrain challenges. Electronic timing updates were very helpful and it appeared that the sports masseuse was effective and popular! I'll be back next year but this time I'll bring hot drink facilities ;)
