The Gold Coast 50 is a road race conducted on footpaths and roads adjoining the beautiful Gold Coast coastline.
The major event is 25 kilometres from Kurrawa to Duranbah and back, for a total of 50 kilometres. There are some steps at five kilometres and a hill at the southern end of the course to break up the monotony.
The run is in early December so can be quite hot. Aid stations are positioned every 2.5 kilometres and carry water, snacks and ice. Furthermore, there are numerous beachside showers to cool off under should the need arise.
The event is popular, providing a great wind up to mark the year end.
Australia’s fastest ever marathoner Steve Moneghetti attends and the commemorative medallions are handed out by the iconic Gold Coast Meter Maids. There are shortr options of 30-15-5 kms and a 2 x 25 kms relay.
