Headwaters Trail Runs are 50k, 30k, and 10k trail running events held in the Klamath Mountains west of Mount Shasta City, CA.

These three scenic trail runs are named after the headwaters of the Sacramento River, California's longest river.

The 50k and 30k races are scenic, mountainous loop courses. They are run entirely on single-track trails and dirt forest roads that wind up, down, around, and through the rugged mountains that claim host to the crystal-clear headwaters of the Sacramento River.

The 10k race is a flat, fast loop on the lake trail that circles the forested shores of picturesque Lake Siskiyou.

The magnificent backdrop for both runs is the majestic Mt. Shasta (14,179-feet elev.), the most massive of all the Cascade volcanoes. Runners are rewarded with clean mountain air, challenging terrain, welcoming aid stations, and an enthusiastic volunteer staff.

The 50k, 30k, and 10k races meet or exceed the event criteria set forth by the American Trail Running Association's (ATRA) Events Standards Program.

Woohoo! I'm one of the runners featured in the photos for this race! Headwaters is a race near and dear to my heart, not only because it takes place in my home of Mount Shasta, CA, but also because the 50k was my first ultramarathon ever. It's a tough one, with lots of hills and tons of rocks. In fact, you're pretty much either climbing or descending a rocky slope for the entire race. The course offers gorgeous views of Mt. Shasta and the Eddies and is very well organized. I've only run a handful of ultras, but must say this one is the most challenging. Not too much to keep me from coming back four years in a row, though!
