Alternate Distances: 27KM/17M

DIFFICULTY Race Difficulty Intermediate

The 60km mountain run and 27km Luxmore Grunt mountain grind - 29th annual event Saturday 3rd December, 2016.

The Fresh Choice Kepler Challenge Mountain Run is described as "the jewel in NZ's mountain running calendar", while it's sister event the Fresh Choice Luxmore Grunt is justifiably respected. Both events are organized by a voluntary committee with the support, on race day, of approximately 200 Te Anau residents. This gives the event a truly "community" feel.

This year race entries open on Saturday, 2nd July at 6.30am. This year there is a pre registration process.

I really loved this race. The course has 1 pretty big climb and then some amazing ridge line running with amazing views of nz. The track itself is not technical and there is no chance to get lost. There probably lots of harder ultras but this one is amazing and is super well organised. Tough to get a spot in the entry but worth the effort.

I ran the short course of this event in 2013 and 2015, the Luxmore Grunt (27km). Be fast with your entries, this race is through one of the most scenic alpine regions in New Zealand in the Fiordland National Park and sells out quickly. The event is well run, the tracks are extremely well maintained and offer panoramic views over lakes and mountains. Volunteers man the aid stations and dress up to themes to cheer on the runners. The event is in Te Anau, a small town with fantastic local food. The race becomes more competitive every year and draws in international athletes (Aussies count, right?). I highly recommend it! I'll be back next year for sure.
