Centre - Location - Event Area

The start/finish is from Bradwell Sports Pavilion, Bradwell, North Derbyshire S33 9ST. Grid Ref: 175818. The pavilion is approx 0.5km to the north of the village on the B6049 and is opposite the Samuel Fox pub. Look out for the roadside event signs – parking is on the adjacent playing field (if very wet marshals will direct you accordingly).

Follow The event uses Dark Peak OL1 1:25000 sheet and White Peak OL24 1:25000 sheet. Full colour, bagged map extracts (approx size A3) of the area with the route overprinted can be supplied at the start provided they are pre-ordered - see entry form below.

The Challenge

The routes are 33 miles long with approx 6300’ of ascent and 16mls with 3000’ of ascent – be aware that both are challenging courses and neither is to be undertaken lightly! You need to be able to navigate and be self sufficient. You must use a SPORTident dibber to take part in this event. You may use your own dibber if you have one (please fill in its number on the entry form), alternatively we will automatically rent dibbers to those who do not have one. “Dib” in the SPORTident box at the start, finish, all checkpoints visited and at the DOWNLOAD BOX at the end.

At registration you will be provided with a full route description and there will be maps on display with the full route marked; failure to follow the prescribed route in full will result in disqualification. For safety and event monitoring purposes, some of the checkpoints will be manned.

The Start - Finish

Registration opens at 7.00am and closes 30minutes before your start time. Massed start at 9.00am for the Long Tour and 9.30am for the Half tour. The Long finish closes at 7.00pm prompt.

PLEASE DO NOT START without (a) registering and (b) passing the start official and “dibbing” in the start timing box. Checkpoint closing times will be detailed on the route description sheets.

******The Golden Rule - if you are unable to complete the event you MUST either (a) telephone the organisers or (b) report to the finish with your dibber to save a mountain rescue search party being sent out. A central telephone number will be detailed on your route description******

Results & Awards

Event results will be up on http://wolfspitfellrace.org.uk/ shortly after the event. An awards presentation will take place on the day at approx 16.00hrs. There will be prizes for the first 3 overall fastest males and females; there will also be various spot/random prizes awarded.

Equipment **** Second Golden Rule- all runners in BOTH races must take all the kit- these are new FRA rules even if it is hot. No excuses****

As some of this event traverses high/exposed moorland terrain you MUST wear/carry the following items:

1) fell running/ trail shoes that in the organisers opinion are fully suitable for the type of rough terrain that will be encountered

2) a waterproof cagoule/jacket (with taped seams)

3) waterproof over trousers

4) hat

5) gloves

6) compass (preferably a Silva type)

7) whistle

8) a PRINTED map (not an electronic version)

9) a set of walk directions (supplied on the day)

10) a SPORTident dibber (your own or hired from us)

11) a sufficient supply of liquid and food to see you through the event- there are 4 water stations with some food but you’ll need extra

We will insist that all competitors carry/wear full windproof/waterproof body cover. In the event of hot weather also bring sun hat, sun cream and plenty of fluids! PLEASE DO NOT SKIMP ON EQUIPMENT - IT IS NOT WORTH IT!
Marshals will disqualify anyone who in their opinion does not meet the above equipment criteria. NOTE – this applies to ALL competitors!

Elevation: Very little change < 500 metres. Benign running terrain, not technical.

Suitable for: First ultra runners completing a marathon or doing regular long distance running in the last six months.


Elevation: Increase of up to 1000 metres

Suitable for: Runners who have completed at least one ultra distance race (or similar event) or are doing long distance running (>26 miles) regularly, with elevation shown.


Elevation: Increase of up to 1500 metres

Suitable for: Runners who have completed several ultra distances or similar events, or are doing long distance running regularly, with elevation shown.


Elevation: Increase of up to 2000 metres with some challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity or heat) and or technical terrain

Suitable for: Experienced runners who have completed at least regular ultra distances in last 12 months, or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races may be subject to evidence of recent qualifying race participation and recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements.


Elevation: Increase of up to 2000 metres with very challenging climatic conditions (e.g. ice, snow, humidity, heat or at high altitude) and or technical terrain.

Suitable for: Very experienced long distance ultra runners (min 3 years’ experience) or are doing regular long distance running (>50 miles) with elevation and conditions shown (where possible). Admission to these races is often subject to evidence of recent qualifying race participation and recent medical examination certificate. Purchase of specialist kit is often recommended for these races.

Endurance - Multi-activity

Type: An ultra distance race including at least two of the following activities such as running, swimming, cycling, kayaking, skiing and climbing. It may also include different climatic conditions (eg ice, snow, humidity, cold water, mud or heat).

Suitable for: Experienced multi-skilled athletes who have trained for the different activities included in this event. Admission to these races may be subject to receipt of a recent medical examination certificate. Check with the race organiser regarding entry requirements and any specialist equipment required such as a wetsuit, skis or a mountain bike.

Global - Virtual

Type: A virtual race which can be run at any time shown on the dates shown, on any type of terrain in any country.

Suitable for: For runners from beginners to experienced as you choose your own course and challenge based on the guidelines and options set by the virtual race organiser.

The Long Tour of Bradwell is a friendly and enjoyable race. The first half covers some steeper ascents and descents including up on to the edge of the Kinder plateau. The second half is a lot more runnable with more gentle gradients. The views are fantastic, the check point staff are great and the organisation was excellent. It was a fairly low key event, run under FRA rules; so like fell races,it was not expensive to enter and the cakes are good. A great race that will takes in a lot of the Eastern Peak.

Ran the half tour last year and jumped at the chance this year at the long tour. What a great decision that was with clear skies and sunshine again this year and more miles, climbs and breath taking views. Well organised friendly race with amongst great people.

2015. A nice route around the Peak District. Similar difficulty but slightly longer than the Peaks Sky race. Slightly tougher but shorter than HP40 for comparison. Partly marked which was a bit confusing... Would be better either marked or not marked IMO.

I have ran this event in 2012, 2013 and also completed the half in 2014. Both events are really well organised and the course is beautiful. The climbs do catch you up in the end, as its a very fast course and could be ran all the way around apart from one small steep hill. The mixture of terrain adds to variation of the course and keeps you on your toes. Its a very friendly race.

I have run this race three times. 2012, 2014 and 2015. The weather has always been perfect, the organisation is brilliant and the food at the end worth the effort! It is a great route with some hard climbs and along hidden valleys. Very friendly atmosphere during and after!

I have run this once, in 2014 and LTOB will definitely be an annual fixture for me. I reccied most of the route a few months before and had a great day doing that; the route is quite quirky with a good mix of terrain An added bonus is you get to some places you would never otherwise go to or through - this event is more than highly recommended. Low key, friendly and good organisation.

LTOB is a 34 mile route in the Peak District, taking in some hefty climbs with around 7000ft of ascent. Some tricky parts up towards Kinder Plateaux so you do need to be familiar with some fell running. Full FRA kit is required, maps, compass, waterproofs. The route takes in some spectacular trails along the infamous 'climbing haven' of Stanage and Burbage Edge, before descending into the lovely village of Hathersage and back up over 'Bradwell Moor' for the final climb. It is self navigation through a number of different checkpoints so you can choose your own route on parts. The manned checkpoints have water and juice and jelly babies but you do need to take most of your own food. At the finish soup, bread and sweets are provided free of charge. No fancy medal or tee shirt, but for £18 you can't beat this fantastic event. There is also a 'half tour' which takes in 15 miles of the route, with less climbing and more 'trail' running. Well recommended.

Fantastic course which was well organised and marshalled. The atmosphere was brilliant and so pleased that I chose the long tour as my first ultra. Highly recommend if your wanting to get into ultra running. Tough course but well worth it.

I ran this in 2013 as a warm up to the CCC. It warmed me up indeed! Great atmosphere with a good competitive field to line up in. Beautiful route . Highly recommend. Part of the classic Run Further Series this is a race which should be firm in the calendar!

Ran this race in 2012 and 2013; as others have said it's a fantastic event. The organisation is superb and the course is awesome. Hilly and tough (heed Houghboy's warning!) but it does show off some top parts of the Peak.
