Under the Andean sun and with a backdrop of steppes and volcanoes, the participants in the first edition of the MaXi-Race Ecuador 2016 set out on this trail at the centre of the Earth.

Located at an altitude of over 3500m, certain sections of the course went as high as 4200m above sea level.

The event, organised by Proyecto Aventura, saw 400 participants take part in the 4 races in the Illinizas summits to the south of Quito, an alley of volcanoes housing the giants Chimborazo (6310m), Cayambe (5790m) and the still active Cotopaxi (5897m).
