June 2018This was my first trail race and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. When you arrived registration was fast and efficient and everything was clearly explained. I was doing the half marathon so we were bused to the start point and ran back to Rostrevor. The route was amazing through the Mournes and other competitors were friendly and supportive. I would definitely recommend this race and will definitely return next year.
This is a local race and really lucky of this. This is a 52 mile out n back race along the trails through the Mourne Mountains starting from Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor to Slieve Donard Park in Newcastle and back. This is an ideal race for anyone attempting this distance for the first time as it's not too technical but don't think it's a walk in the park either. The scenery is great and the race is professionally organized. Apart from the Ultra there is a Marathon, Half Marathon & 10k which all start at staggered times, so there is a good chance that you will be finishing with many others and also have company for a good part of the race. The course is marked but it follows the Mourne Way trail so you can't really go off course. The area is very welcoming and you would definitely consider coming back.
Fantastic event, beautiful scenery and really well organised with aid stations every 3 or 4 miles including lovely cake nom nom! Distance markers would have been a help, but otherwise the route and organisation was faultless, really enjoyed this race and i will be back again next year!
