Peaks Trail 30 - 2018 -Great Introduction Ultra, good quality map, easy navigation. Both the guys running the set-up at the base location and those manning the checkpoints are friendly and go all out to provide you with a great experience.
Great run, great event, great terrain and views. Very well run. Great support. Had to navigate yourself on 80% of the route but it was not that hard really. 1hour add on if you missed a dib station and the odd one was kinda easy to miss.( unless you prepared well) I agree more food at the stations would have been better and i was told there would be fuel at the top of Winhill but there wasnt. Would i do it again YES i bloody would and we got a medal and a tee shirt this year WOOT
A great route taking in some of the classic sights (and the cement works) in the Peak District. Whilst the 30 miler takes in some challenging climbs (including the slog up Parkin Clough to Win Hill) it's never particularly exposed and most of the route is on defined trails. This is not a long fell race.In 2015 the emphasis for the ultras was on navigation, so only the first and last sections of the course were marked, so bear this in mind. Penalties for missed dibbers were fairly high (1 hour for each one missed) so concentration and good navigation is important. Has the feel of a major event, with sponsorship, prizes and activities throughout the weekend, and attracts a good mix of runners of all standards. Entry fee is on the high side. Food at more of the checkpoints would be an improvement. Well worth it for the amazing views.
I ran the intro ultra this year (2015) My first official ultra and I loved every minute. Great organisation and wonderful feed station at Bradwell. Might be up for the big one next year!
Ran in 2015, my second ultra ever. The event was well run on the day and a really lovely route to follow. Marshalls had a good attitude and made the aid stations a joy. Some of the upfront info could have been better organised and results process seems a bit fragmented.
