The St Albans Stampede is an ultra marathon running event, organised by the St Albans Striders running club, held in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, covering parts of Heartwood Forest and Nomansland Common.

The course consists of pleasantly undulating 4 mile loops though the countryside, on mostly grassy surfaces. Race HQ is a Scout hut and will be filled with an array of snacks, warm and cold drinks and our famously friendly, supportive volunteers.

The challenge is to cover the most amount of distance (in miles) over a designated time period of 12hrs – this can be undertaken solo, as a pair or as a team relay (up to 4, and up to 8 person options).

It’s worth noting that the category winners will be awarded on distance covered only. In other words, you don’t have to run the full 12hrs to have successfully completed the challenge. The 12hr duration is simply the maximum allowable time. All entrants, even those that run for 1-2hrs, will have successfully participated in the event and be awarded a medal for their efforts. And if participants from the 100 Marathon Club want to stop at marathon distance to record a successful completion, this is very much acceptable.

We look forward to meeting you in September!

I completed this event in 2015 as my first Ultra and returned for a second attempt 2016. The course has enough changing scenery to make the 4 mile loops interesting. The aid station was well stocked with plenty to choose from. The addition of extra portaloos in 2016 was appreciated by many. Very well organised with great support from the volunteers. A terrific event for anyone looking for their first try at an Ultra distance, but also great for a relay team challenge.

Superb event that is open to all levels. A pleasant route regardless of the weather and superb organisation by the race directors. Food and drink was plentiful throughout the day. Overall, a great event that I will definitely be up for next year.
