I took pat in the 100 miler in 2019. The reasons for a 1 star review are:1. They didn’t assess the weather and sent people out in conditioned that were not suitable and did not do a mandatory equipment check. People were close to getting hypothermia at the checkpoints and many of us struggling to keep warm throughout the early parts of the race2. Way finding was very poor and the course was not well marked out with many people getting lost. Some of the routes were down unacceptably steep rocky sections with flowing water which required some rock climbing 9circa 5B grade), it was more a fell run /climb than a trial run with sections where there were no trails/paths.3. The organisers decided 14 hours into the race to redirect us and all other races (80k & 47k) onto the main road for ~40k of the last 47km section. This road has no footpath or hard shoulder or anywhere to run/walk safely without having to step into a ditch to avoid oncoming traffic. When the race changed they didn’t know how far checkpoints were from each other so many of us ran out of water, they didn’t change cut-offs and the race distance was increased by 10km. Nobody was told this at the time and there was a lot of misinformation. Had the weather been great with good visibility it would probably have gone well. But it is only when things go wrong or there is adverse weather that you find out the quality of the race director/organisers. Sadly I know that anybody can just step-up a trail race and there is no way to manage these, but eventually there will be a big incident involving an inexperienced race director and from there on it will have to be regulated to ensure the safety of the competitors. So my advice is to avoid this race and aim for the better run races in the area such as Nuts Pallas in Finland or some of the races around Tromso skyrace or others covered in the Run ultra article here - https://www.runultra.co.uk/Reviews/Running-events/Other/Run-under-a-midnight-sun
