Excellent event. Incredibly well organized. Volunteers & marshals are brilliant. The distances are slight different than website states. You start with “half marathon “, 24km run along quiet country roads with gentle rolling hillsStage 2 is 10km kayak if you manage to keep a straight line. As the sun comes up. Stage 3 98km cycle over constant hills, never particularly long or high but not a single flat road to be seen. Stage 4 is a very tough 5km mountain scramble. Back onto bike for stage 5 for a very tough 68km cycle over yet more hills & drags. All leading to a beautiful marathon in the national park. The scenery along the coast of donegal is spectacular & will completely keep your mind off the effort your exerting. Great atmosphere throughout as it’s everyone against the course rather than each other. Highly recommended & as an extra bonus it’s a non profit race. All money goes to charity
The Race 2017. Absolutely awesome event. Super well organised. Private FB group set up by organisers for the 12months leading up to it. Great to get to know fellow competitors. The Race itself is a loop of the rugged and windswept county of Donegal. It breaks down to roughly: 23km run, 15km kayak, 98km cycle (some brutal climbing!), climb Muckish mountain, 70km cycle (probably in the dark!) And finishes with 43km run. Weather plays a huge part in how the day can go. Good gear is a must!!This puts an Ironman even to shame. 24hr cut off isn't as generous as it sounds!Would love to go back again. Highly recommended.
