2018

Okay, hands up, I've only done the Marathon route of the Ultra Trail Bosques del Sur which covers around 46km of the Ultra route but it's stunning. This race is easily the most beautiful I've ever done and 2018 wasn't the best year weatherwise. Yes, it can rain and it can rain torrentially in Spain in June - you've been warned.

The races are held in the Sierra Cazorla national park in Jaen province, which to be honest isn't that easy to get to for those flying into Spain. We're based in Granada (the next province over) and it's a tow hour plus drive to get there but the race is worth the journey. Cazorla reminds me of a mini-Pyrenees-scape. It's remote, wild and utterly beautiful. Plenty of climbing, plenty of downhill, and not overly technical, which makes for a fast course.

The Bosques del Sur is also somewhat of a local secret. The organization is fabulous, with the race starting out from the abbey ruins in the town of Cazorla. The checkpoints are well stocked and in 2018 included fantastic locally produced chocolate mixed with olive oil and honey.

If you like the sound of Ultra Trail Bosques del Sur, then be prepared to hit that enter button as entries sell out and sell out fast.
