Dark Skies @ Kielder
The Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is the largest area of protected night sky in Europe. The 580 square mile water and forest park was awarded gold tier Dark Sky Park status by the International Dark Skies Association in 2013. On clear nights, the moonlight reflecting off the reservoir can make it possible to run parts of the race route without a headtorch. However, the race has also been subject to very stormy weather in the past, so this is not guaranteed! On Saturday, around 400 runners will set off on a 26.5 mile route on the Lakeside Way path around Kielder Reservoir and climb around 2188 feet under the darkest skies in England. New male and female course records were set last year - Andrew Dancer and Victoria Nealson completed the race in 3:07:07 and 3:33:30 respectively.

Good luck to this year's runners - it looks an amazing experience.

RE:Dark Skies @ Kielder
Well done to everyone who ran this weekend. Great to see that some of the 26.5 milers returned last night for the Dark Skies 14 mile race and made it a double race weekend. There were some phenomenal performances, and both the male and female course records were broken. Three runners managed a sub-3 hour time, which is highly impressive on dark and undulating trails! These were the podium finishers:

1. Cees Van Der Land - 2:51:42
2. Hywel Davies - 2:56:16
3. Iain Twaddle - 2:58:30

1. Victoria Nealon - 3:30:14
2. Rebecca Winter - 3:39:54
3. Dawn Metcalfe - 3:44:27
