The Severn Challenge
Tomorrow morning, runners will set out on a 4 mile mountain trek to reach the source of the River Severn (Afon Hafren in Welsh). From here, they will run a further 23 miles along Britain's longest river path. The Hafren Ultra, is a race in its own right, but it also the first day on The Severn Challenge - 5 races which total 217 miles - 210 of these make up the length of the path alongside the Severn. Those who are awarded medals for The Hafren, The Severn Plod, The Severn Path, The Severn Way and The Bristol Severn Ultras will find that they fit together to form a jigsaw of the route. Those who complete the 217 miles in a cumulative time of less than 36 hours will receive a Severn Challenge jacket.

The final day (The Bristol Severn) takes runners to the mouth of the Severn where they end their journey. Good luck if you are taking part!

RE:The Severn Challenge
Prior to this year, the DNF rate for the full Severn Challenge was 75%. After 3 of the 5 races, all 5 of the runners who had entered the entire challenge were still in the game. Race number 4 (the Severn Way) brought thunderstorms and two retirements. Both of the runners who continued completed days 4 and 5 and are the new Severn Challenge champions: Sarah Evershed (53:38) and Michael Brehe (52:12). The new DNF rate for this race is 74%. Would you take on a challenge with such a low completion rate?
