Kintyre Way Ultra - How difficult??
So, completed a couple of marathons, and now looking to push on to an ultra. The Kintyre Way Ultra is pretty close to me as I live on the west coast, and looks an interesting run.
One question is why the 'ultra' race rating?? I've ran the Glen Coe marathon, so know a bit about going up hills, but was wondering if anyone on the forums has completed this marathon and could give a gauge as to the difficulty?

Cheers,

Russell.

RE:Kintyre Way Ultra - How difficult??
I've done it twice, and I don't think it's particularly difficult.

There's lovely forest/trail stuff for about 15 miles, then an awkward beach bit for a few miles, then more forest trail and finally road.

I think it's a nice introductory Ultra. Shouldn't be too much of a step up from a marathon, and it's very beautiful.

Thanks for that Drew, good to know about the terrain. Think I'll get myself organised and enter this year!!

RE:Kintyre Way Ultra - How difficult??
Thanks for helping there Drew. The race grading can be a real pain to work out, as the race organisers pick the grading for their events. As is clear in this case, they often over (or sometimes under) grade the race.

We recently redone our grading guidelines, which will be shared with the organisers. Info on the update can be found here: http://www.runultra.co.uk/Forums?forumid=2&threadid=242

We also changed the hardest grade from Ultra to Brutal. As that prior title was clearly confusing.

Good luck if you end up racing it Rusty!

Cheers

Luke
