Lakes in a Day
The Lakes in a Day ultra run is a 50 mile route starting from the height of the Lake District at Caldbeck and finishing at the bottom in Cartmel. In includes the summits of Blencathra, Helvellyn and Fairfield as well as the western shore of Lake Windermere. Runners must rely on their own navigation but will be treated to the best views the Lake District has to offer. The terrain is varied and tough and could be treacherous if we continue to experience high winds.

The elevation over the 50 miles is 4000 metres, but those who can move uphill quickly and have the skills to negotiate tricky descents at speed may be richer by the end. There is £500 available to anyone who beats the course record and this gets rolled over if no one achieves it. The current course records are both from 2015: Kim Collinson won in 9:12 and Helen Leigh was first lady in 11:00. Can the records be broken this year?

Good luck if you are running. Stay safe and enjoy the scenery.

RE:Lakes in a Day
No one was able to break the male course record this year so the prize money will be rolled over to 2018. The fantastic Katie Kaars Sijpesteijn broke the female course record by 14 minutes and had a 66 minute lead over the second lady. She was third overall. Katie is having a great year - she won Hardmoors Rosedale Marathon in August and broke the Lakeland 50 course record earlier this year. She also completed a Bob Graham Round in May in the second fastest female time. She is one to watch!

These were the podium finishers:

1. Marcis Gubats - 10:18:39
2. Jack Casey - 10:43:49
3. Nick Green - 11:04:47

1. Katie Kaars Sijpesteijn - 10:46:29
2. Elizaveta Ershova - 11:52:54
3. Liz Barker - 12:50:31
