The Raidlight Arc of Attrition
The route of this 100 mile race creates an arc around the whole south west of Cornwall from Coveack to Porthtowan on the south west coastal path. It is a challenging route with plenty of elevation and likely to be slippery and boggy at this time of year. Our 3 runner reviewers praised the event whilst also highlighting its difficulty. Runners are required to self-navigate and there are only 4 checkpoints, so a considerable amount of self-sufficiency is expected. Entrants must have successfully previously completed at least a 100k race and have night time running experience. Even with this level of expertise, many runners will not reach the finish. Last year's DNF rate was around 46%, but in 2016, storms added to the challenges faced by the competitors and far fewer were able to finish. The cut-off is 36 hours, but those finishing in under 30 hours earn a special golden belt buckle. Finishers will ne awarded 6 UTMB points.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend. The event starts at 12pm on Friday and finished at midnight Saturday/Sunday.

RE:The Raidlight Arc of Attrition
It's nearly 10.5 hours into the race, and there seem to be some issues with the trackers for Joseph Kennett-Parsons and Philip Galsky - they are showing as near the finish, so they have either dropped and be transported to the finish, or the tracking system has a glitch. Steven Wyatt is the leading male of those whose trackers seem to be accurate - he is at 47.59 miles. Charlie Ramsdale is leading the women at 44.35 miles with Sharon Law around 2 miles behind and Maryann Devally in third at 36.46 miles.

RE:The Raidlight Arc of Attrition
It appears that Joseph Kennett-Parsons and Philip Galsky had retired from the race (see above). Steven Wyatt is in the lead at 52.74 miles, but Paul Maskell is about a quarter of a mile behind him. Dan Masters in in 3rd at 51.16 miles - very tight at the top! In the women's race, Charlie Ramsden continues to lead at 48.84 miles, with Sharon law at 46.51 and Maryann Devally at 40.7. There isn't much distance separating the leading women from the leading men and it's great to see.

RE:The Raidlight Arc of Attrition
Paul Maskell and Steven Wyatt have just finished 1st and 2nd - both their tracker times are showing as 23:36:35, so it must have been quite a finish! After just over 24 hours, Drew Sheffield is in third with less than 3 miles to go.

The women's race looks really exciting with the top 6 currently showing as within 1.2 miles of each other: Amy Blackburn (72.59 miles), Caroline Cable, Kay Kershaw, Maryann Devally, Gemma Pateman, Naomi Cannon (72.43 miles). The long DNF list shows how tough this race is and includes previously leading ladies Charlie Ramsdale and Sharon Law.
