Badwater Cape Fear 2019
Badwater Cape Fear takes place on Saturday and is the first event of the Badwater Ultra Cup. At 51 miles, it is also the shortest. There is also a 50km option.

Cape Fear is so called because it changes in shape and size with the tides and has historically caused many ships to get into trouble in the deceptively shallow waters.

At 7:45 on Saturday (local time), runners will set of from Bald Head Island, North Carolina. The first 12 miles are run along a traffic-free road on the island before the runners head to the wild and secluded beaches to Fort Fisher for one or two loops. They will have views of Frying Pan Shoals to the East and marshlands to the West.

Last year's winners of the 51 mile event were Eric Hunziker (6:39) and Suzi Swinehart (7:47). Good luck to all those running the 6th edition this weekend.
