Eastern States 100
At 5am on Saturday (10am UK time), around 200 runners will embark on a 100 mile circumnavigation of Pine Creek in Pennsylvania which cuts through the Appalachian mountains and contains over 20,000 ft of ascent. Last year only 66 runners made it to the finish. The winners were Devon Olson (20:30:36) and Michelle Leduc (29:26:34). This is a technical route involving steep single track running and climbing through an area known to be inhabited by snakes and bears. Many of the runners will be on their feet well into the second day. Keep your eye on this thread to see how the race goes this year and let us know if you have raced or paced a runner in the race.

Jayson Kolb has taken the lead and was first through Slate Run (63.8 miles) in 12:32. Deserae Clarke was first lady at Halfway House (54.7 miles) in 13:08 but Kathleen Cusick was hot on her heels in 13:09. Very tight at the top for the women!

RE:Eastern States 100
Tsutomu Bessho overtook Danny Mowers and finished third in 23:37:13. Danny Mowers finished fourth. Kathleen Cusick was first female at the 92.8 mile aid station and looks set to win. Rhoda Smoker remains in second and Deserae Clarke is now showing as fourth - much of the race is in remote areas and tracking depends on volunteers being able to upload the times at aid stations and may account for some of the rapid changes in places on the leaderboard. Heather Simon is currently showing as third lady.

RE:Eastern States 100
Nearly 100 runners are still out on the course but the podiums are full. These were the tope three women:

1. Kathleen Cusick 27:51:19
2. Rhoda Smoker 29:10:43
3. Heather Simon 29:29:22

That's an impressive lead from Kathleen who seemed to be strong throughout the race.
