Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Trail Run
Rocky Raccoon 100 hosts the USATF National Trail Championships and will be a qualifying race for Western States 100 2019. It attracts some fierce competition and is ideal for a fast trail 100 time - the route is reasonably flat and single track. In the past, it has comprised 5 x 20 mile loops. However, Hurricane Harvey has necessitated a route change, and this year's race will be 4 x 25 mile loops in Huntsville State Park, Texas. The current course records are held by Ian Sharman (12:44:33 in 2011) and Nicole Kalogeropoulous (14:22:18 in 2015). There is a $4,000 prize purse, and anyone who breaks the fastest known trail 100 mile times will be awarded an additional $1,000.

Both of last year's USATF winners are amongst this year's competitors - Sabrina Little and Ronnie Delzer. Other entrants for this weekend include 2015 USATF 50k Road Champion Sarah Barad and Western States 100 originator Gordy Ainsleigh (competing in the men's age 70-74 category).

RE:Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Trail Run
2017's USATF champion Ronnie Delzer has won the event in 14:52. The phenomenal Sabrina Little has defended her 2017 title and finished second overall with a fantastic time of 15:23. This is her fourth win. Centurion's James Elson completed the event for the 5th time and came in third in an impressive 16:25. Patrick Wills was third male in 17:01. Second and third ladies were Ashley Truan (19:37) and Alison Miller (21:13).

RE:Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Trail Run
I have just learned that there was a glitch in the timing system. Although James Elson was in third place at 75 miles, he had injured his knee during the third lap and spent 5 hours recovering in the aid station. He then walked the final lap, but crossing the timing mat to start that lap seems to have triggered the system into thinking he had finished. His final time was 22:34. It was Steve Speirs who finished third in 17:13:10.

RE:Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile Trail Run
I have only just learned of another amendment to the results:

Steve Speirs was second in 17:13 with Wade Barrett taking third in 17:18. (Patrick Wills crossed the line in second in 17:01, but was later disqualified.)
