Marathon Du Mont-Blanc
Around 7000 runners will take part in one of 6 races over 4 days in Chamonix. Campers will begin arriving on Thursday, and the 90km Marathon Du Mont-Blanc starts at 4am local time on Friday 29th June. A 3.8km 'vertical kilometre' (1000m of ascent) takes place at 4pm. On Saturday, there are 23km and 10km races. On Sunday there is a 42km race. There are also children's races on both Saturday and Sunday. The vertical kilometre and the longer races are aimed at experienced mountain runners, whilst the 10km is a less technical route and appropriate for novices.

The 90km ultra contains 6220m of ascent and has a cut-off of 24 hours. It holds 5 ITRA points. The organisers describe the route as being one of the most technical and demanding ultra courses, with narrow paths, snowy sections and an average altitude of over 2000 metres. It includes the best mountain paths of Chamonix and rewards runners with stunning views of the Mont-Blanc range. Competitors will be treated to a sunrise on Mont-Blanc, a crossing of the Emosson dam in Switzerland, the Mer de Glace glacier, the Aiguille du Midi, and a finish under the lights of Chamonix.

This event is popular amongst those who are unsuccessful at gaining a place at UTMB, but the reviews from our members suggest it is a fantastic event in its own right. Let us know what you think.

RE:Marathon Du Mont-Blanc
The men's and women's 90km event panned out very differently from each other. It was a closely run men's race, whereas the women's race had stand-out performances. These were the podium finishers:

MEN
1. Sylvain Court (France) - 11:23:48
2. Maxime Cazajous (France) - 11:27:30
3. Donald Campbell (Great Britain) - 11:30:00

WOMEN
1. Mimmi Kotka (Sweden) - 12:09:45
2. Audrey Tanguy (France) - 13:14:01
3. Marion Delespierre (France) - 14:20:07
