First Ultra!
Hello,

I have run three marathons since 2014 and have a strong urge to try an ultra before my 47-year-old legs give up. I live in SW France so ideally would like to do it here in France (or possibly the UK) and as a beginner, would need something beginner-ish.

Could anyone recommend a suitable event? Was looking at 100km in Normandy which might be ok....?

Thanks in advance!

RE:First Ultra!
Hi,

It's great that you want to step up to an ultra. Have you used our 'Find Events' section? This enables you to search for events by the country in which you want to run. If you enter the 100km in Normandy, it might be a good idea to also look for a 50km event that you could use as a long training run. This will enable you to build up the miles without worrying about replenishing food and drink supplies. It also gives you an opportunity to practise your pacing and to get a feel for running an ultra.

RE:First Ultra!
Sorry! Been a bit slow at replying! Will defo check out the links above - thank you! Yes prob a bit ambitious jumping straight to 100km! Just thought that 50km is only a tiny bit over a marathon so thought that if I went for an ultra, I'd really go for an ultra!

Thanks!

RE:First Ultra!
It can be helpful to use shorter ultras as training events as the logistics of self-supported long training runs are tricky. That said, many people also enjoy the challenge of a self-supported ultra.
