A new 248km stage race in the Pyrenees

Lovers of mountain trail running have a new event on the calendar. This year sees the premiere edition of the Pyrenees Stage Run, the first major stage running event for pairs in the range of mountains that separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of western Europe.

Referred to by the organisers as the “Transalpine Run of the Pyrenees” the 2016 edition will be held in the first week of September, from the 4th to the 10th. The start line will be at Ribes de Freser, in the Spanish province of Girona and end in Vielha, the main town in the Aran Valley, in the province of Lleida.

The total length of the course is 248km (154m) with 15000m uphill. The PSR is run in seven stages along the GR11, the Spanish section of the trans European network of footpaths, and crosses five natural parks also dipping into the Pyrenean country of Andorra during stages three and four.

  • Stage 2 – 38km
  • Stage 3 – 45km
  • Stage 4 – 20km
  • Stage 5 – 33km
  • Stage 6 – 34km
  • Stage 7 – 44km

This mountain ultra event is available in three options: Basic (no accommodation included), Adventure (accommodation in campsites or halls) and Premium (hotel accommodation). All three options include evening meals and support teams are welcome.
