New route changes in Lanzarote’s main ultra event

16-May-17

By Elsa Trujillo

The next edition of the Haría Extreme on the island of Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain) is on 18 November. This year the race has had its ultra distance shortened by 8km.

The ultra distance, now at 94km with 3,050 metres of positive elevation, and starting at the National Park of Timanfaya, has been shortened to avoid the Órzola section.

Running on volcanic sands and landscapes, runners will be flanked by 300 camels at the starting line before heading east towards La Geria and eventually north towards Famara and Haría, the finish line.

The 2018 marathon event distance and route will also be modified and will now stand at 44km and 1,271 metres of positive elevation.

The ultra distance of this event is the last stage of the WAA Spain Utra Cup in this category and the last for scoring points in the Spanish Mountain Race Cup.
