Camille Herron smashes women’s 100-mile world record

By Alice Morrison

The USA’s Camille Herron annihilated the women’s 100-mile world record at the Tunnel Hill 100 miler in Illinois this weekend.

She took more than an hour off Gina Slaby’s time, coming in at 12:42:39 for 100-miles.

Unbelievably it is her first 100-mile finish. She also won the race and shattered the course record. As a certified road race, her Tunnel Hill 100 time is officially recorded and is now just waiting world-record ratification.

Camille is right at the top of her game with a slew of records and championships under her trainers including (to name but a few): the 2015 IAU 100K World Championships;  the 1st IAU 50 km World Championships in Doha; a new "World Road Best" for 50 Miles at the 50/US 50 Mile Road Championship and, most impressively, the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon in a superhero costume.

She also dominated the women’s competition at Comrades this year, which is run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and won in a time of 6:27:35.

Congratulations, Camille!
