In the 2016 three-day edition, 831 runners from 50 countries set out from the Ultra Pirineu start line in the medieval town of Bagà (Barcelona). The ultra has a total ascent of 6,800m and was the final race in the 2016 Skyrunner ® World Series.

The event also includes a mountain marathon and a night-time vertical kilometer run. This year the rain and lower temperatures were a significant factor, especially for the vertical kilometer which had to be shortened.

The winner, Miguel Heras (Spain) ran the 110km of mountain trails through the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park in 12:05:51, followed by Jessed Hernández (Spain) in 12:40:15 and then Cristofer Clemente (Spain) in 12:47:15. Clemente was crowned the Skyrunner ® Ultra Series Champion for 2016.

In the women’s category, the winner of the ultra and female 2016 Skyrunner ® Ultra Series Champion was Gemma Arenas (Spain) who completed the course in 15:20:34, followed by Hillary Allen (USA) in 15:37:47 and Anna Comet (Spain) in 15:49:46.
