SCOTT Vector Sunglasses review

Last updated: 24-Oct-18

By Alice Morrison

Summer is here and sunglasses are a must-have item for most ultra runners. I tried out these Scott Vectors in absolutely ideal conditions for a real work out – hot, humid, very windy, Moroccan beach runs. There was plenty of glaring sun and pouring sweat to test them to the max.

The blurb says, “The SCOTT Vector is the perfect blend between performance and lifestyle made for activities on and off the mountain. The large lens design not only offers a massive field of vision and blocks 100% UV light, but also protects you from wind and various flying debris. With pressure point free construction these shades are as comfy as they get.”

PROS: What’s good about the SCOTT Vector Sunglasses

These are first and foremost bike glasses so are a bit bigger than other running sunglasses I had and I wondered if that would be a problem when I took them out the case. For me, it really wasn’t and the extra coverage helped with the sand storm that inevitably comes my way on any run on my local beach.

The fit was very comfortable and I felt no pressure points rubbing. I can have problems on the top of my right ear and also on my nose but this wasn’t the case with these glasses.

They stayed put and did not slip down even when my face was completely wet with sweat.

They kept the glare off – the most important thing. I found the strength perfect for a bright day and not too dark even when there was some haze.

I sweat like a demon and there are no sunglasses in the world that aren’t going to have rivulets running down them from my eyebrows. This was the case with the SCOTT Vectors, but I found that the larger coverage and larger top bar meant that most of the sweat stayed outside the glasses so there was less eye stinging.

Steam is the other bane of my life and the two little air vents at the top of the lenses and at the sides worked well to let it out. The glasses did steam up but not as badly as others I have.

CONS: What’s not so good about the SCOTT Vector Sunglasses

They are heavier than the glasses I am used to.

I did get panda marks on my cheekbones from where the glasses rested. This is due to the extra coverage.

The “light sensitive” legend stamped on the left lens annoyed me until I got used to it and stopped catching it out of the corner of my eye.

I liked the fact that they were bigger and gave me more coverage and found it especially useful to protect against wind debris, but this might not suit you if you are used to very minimalist glasses.

These are good glasses and I would definitely recommend them for running. I really liked the fact they were a bit bigger and more robust to keep the debris out. They aren’t the lightest but I did not get any rubbing or pressure points so I felt it didn’t really matter. If you are doing a proper, rufty tufty adventure, these would be an excellent choice.
