OMM Flash Tights 1.0 review

Last updated: 17-Aug-18

OMM stands for Original Mountain Marathon and the company that sells the Flash Tights has a long history of organising events and taking part in races.

OMM Flash Tights 1.0

The OMM Flash tights come in three lengths: 0.5 is a short cut length, the 0.75 is a below-the-knee cut and the 1.0 is a full-length tight.

I have tested the longer 1.0 tights.

Pros: What’s good about the OMM Flash Tights 1.0

The tights feel very light and easy to wear. I was sent the size medium to try and I could probably have worn the size small but even so they were comfortable without being loose-fit and they offer reasonable support.

I thought I would need to use the drawstring at the waist to keep them up but I found they stayed up without. I prefer tights that require no use of a drawstring because I do not like the feeling of a cord at my waist, so the OMM tights scored well for me.

I am much more likely to wear compression running tights, such as SKINS, these days but they can feel quite constricting over many hours of wear. The OMM tights remained super comfortable for hours of running and general wear and it was as if they weren’t there at all.

The breathability seems good. I am not an overly sweaty person so the mesh might be unnecessary for me but if you find you overheat this design feature is useful.

The flat-lock seams were welcomed too for an overall impression of being comfortable.

The addition of a key pocket is useful although how many people actually use this? The pocket was slightly larger than others in tights I have tested so it would be possible to stow a larger, more modern car key.

If you wanted to wear tights over shorts with the option to remove them as you became warmer these would be a good choice.

The gripper ankle hems help to keep the tights in place length-ways by stopping the tights from riding up. There is a nice spread of reflective safety flashes/details on the tights.

The price is very good and the colour and design matches many other OMM clothes and products.

Cons: What’s not so good about the OMM Flash Tights 1.0

I am amazed to see the tights are unisex. Most brands would include male and female fit these days. The height of the waist was lower, like in many men’s tights, and although I like this, many women might not. I know women prefer tights that reach up to their (higher) waist.

I didn’t notice the compression panels. The tights felt generally comfortable but not super-supportive. They would not suit someone who is a fan of compression tights but then again I don’t think they are aimed at that.

I think the design is fairly basic compared to many other modern running tights, although they usually cost a lot more.

I confess I was expecting a more sophisticated pair of running tights from OMM simply because of the events they organise.

For the price, the tights are good value. They are a more back-to- basics style of tight but offer good comfort, breathability and fit (if you’re a guy). I would buy a few pairs for training.
