Rab Flashpoint Jacket

Ultra-lightweight waterproof shells are definitely at the sexier end of running products. Why is this? Well, it’s kinda strange really, as it is something you don’t necessarily wear that often. But with a large portion of our running taking place on remote trails, within the turmoil of inclement weather systems, it often pays to be prepared.

Hoka One One Arahis

Whatever kind of runner you are, the likelihood is that you will be putting in plenty of miles pounding the tarmac. I love the trails but life intervenes and so I find myself hitting the pavement, and very occasionally the treadmill but the less said about that the better. With that in mind, I have been road testing the Hoka One One Arahis.

Adidas Chill tights and Asics knee tights

From late Spring onwards, it is time to break out the three-quarter-length or knee-length running tights and free those legs and ankles to the sun and wind. I like a shorter length because they give you all the support you need while keeping you that bit cooler, also you can get a pair of calf sleeves on underneath quite comfortably.

Helly Hansen Active Flow LS vs. inov-8 Hooded AT/C Merino LS

Whether you wear it for the entire run, put it on at the start when it’s chilly and take it off when you warm up, or pop it on at higher altitudes, there is little doubting the value of a long-sleeved baselayer or mid-layer. A baselayer is also useful year-round and, for many ultra runners, a favourite extra layer will be with them for years.
