That’s most of us then – because most of us don’t get paid to do this ultra running lark. Most of us have jobs, a Significant Other and/or Small People, travel we have to do, deadlines we have to meet, bills we have to pay and a DIY list we have to get through.

The running commute is a great use of time. My commute in Tokyo is an hour each way, on a packed train. Once a week I run home along the river by headlight...it's 22km, which is a bit excessive for a midweek run, but it's the only midweek run time allows. So it'll have to do!
